Planning a home project that requires a permit?

The City of Monroe Building Division is offering Free Permit Weeks from:

     •  May 18th through May 29
     
•  August 3 through August 14, 2026

The building/zoning permit incentive program waives permit fees for property owners or contractors applying for a permit between the dates listed above.


PLEASE NOTE: Fees are paid upfront and refunded upon timely completion and inspection approval.


After the application is reviewed, a permit is issued for a period of 180 days.

Permit fees will be 
REFUNDED if the following criteria are met: 

  • Permit is inspected and final approval is given by the 90th day after issuance
  • Projects has a value of $20,000 or less
  • Projects include roofing, siding, windows, decks/porches, sheds, private concrete flatwork (driveways, patios and sidewalks) and fences
  • The homeowner (or a contractor) submits a request for a refund.

THE PERMIT IS NOT REFUNDABLE IF FINAL APPROVAL IS NOT ACHIEVED BY THE 90TH DAY AFTER ISSUANCE.

Only permit fees will be refunded.  Application fees are non-refundable.  


PLEASE NOTE:

  • Projects are eligible for a refund for the first 90 days only after permit is issued
  • The permit will remain valid for 180 days even if a refund isn't approved
  • A homeowner can be issued a maximum of 5 permits during the incentive period
  • A contractor can be issued a maximum of 3 permits during the incentive period
  • Refunds would be sent to applicants in the form of a check  after verification and approval by City Council
  • Application/processing fees are non-refundable
