Electronic Scooters

The City of Monroe has partnered with the shared electric scooter company, Bird Rides, to bring e-scooters to the community.  The program officially launches Wednesday, June 9th.

Bird Rides offers dockless scooters to residents and visitors as an additional transportation option within the City to help reduce carbon emissions, as well as traffic congestion on roadways.  The scooters are accessible via a free mobile app wherein riders pay to use the scooter per minute.

Scooters have a maximum speed of 15mph. Riders are required to be 18 years-old and above to operate the scooters. They are also encouraged to wear a helmet on every ride and required to obey all standard rules of the road applicable to any motorized vehicle.  Scooters are allowed on road bike lanes only - no bike path or sidewalk scooter travel is permitted via City ordinance.  Please read our full list of guidelines linked below as 'More Scooter Info/Rules of the Road.'

Scooter boundaries will be limited to the City of Monroe proper, with some exclusions.

Where can you find a scooter?  They will be located in 'nests' around the city.  These areas are usually places with high foot traffic and visibility, to make it as easy as possible for someone to locate a Bird and start a ride.  These locations can be fluid, changing with daily use, but think Downtown or parks locations to start.

Residents with questions or concerns about the e-scooters can contact the company directly at 1-866-205-2442 or email [email protected].

Abandoned scooters or those inappropriately parked should be reported directly to the company at 1-866-205-2442 or email [email protected]. Contact information can also be found affixed to each scooter.
