Annual Operating Budget

Michigan law and the City of Monroe Charter require that the City of Monroe annual adopt an operating budget. Per City Charter, the budget must be submitted to the City Council by April 1 of each year and the budget must be adopted by April 30. 

The City goes beyond the requirements of state law and adopts a budget for each operating fund of the City. The City follows its financial policies and reviews the budget for two years at a time when adopting the upcoming fiscal year budget. A budget ordinance is adopted that enacts millage rates, fees, budget operating procedures, and expenditure levels for the upcoming fiscal year.
