Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department's purpose is to ensure the best use of land for the City of Monroe. This is accomplished through long range planning as well as review of current planning issues. Long range planning involves maintaining planning documents such as the Master Plan, the Zoning Ordinance and the Five Year Consolidated Plan for the city's Community Development Block Grant funds. The department handles more immediate planning issues by assisting applicants with the processes for items such as rezoning, special uses, site plan reviews.

The Planning and Zoning Department staffs a variety of boards and commissions, which allow staff to work toward its goal of allowing the best placement of residential, commercial and industrial uses for the City of Monroe. These include, but are not limited to the following boards and committees:
