On December 5th, 2004, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) voted unanimously to award international accreditation status to the Monroe Police Department. The award is a direct result of efforts made by department members over the past two years.

* Insures that the officers are provided with clearly written and defined procedures.
* Reduces liability by requiring extensive reporting, reviewing, and analysis of use of force, pursuits and other critical issues.
* Provides a proven management system of written directives, sound training, clearly defined lines of authority, and reports that support decision making and resource allocation.
* Requires daily proof of compliance with established standards.
* Encourages the police department to work cooperatively with the citizens to prevent and control challenges confronting the community.
