The function of the Information Technology Department is to facilitate the operations of its customers and provide confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. The Information Technology Department (IT) is solely responsible for providing City-based technology resources including hardware, software, service, and information. In addition, the IT department serves as a liaison to vendors, County, State, and Federal agencies regarding technology-related matters allowing for efficient and secure resource utilization.
The current structure of the Information technology Department includes a director, an interim IT manager, and a student intern. Utilizing this staff, the primary goals of the Department have been to provide maximum user uptime, reduce user workload by minimizing redundancy, and provide secure and efficient access to information. Much of this has been accomplished via standardization, centralizing core functions, proper resource allocation, and enhancing ease of use.
The IT Department utilizes established best practices with little variation in order to provide reliable and secure use of assets. The practices of the IT Department have resulted in minimal data loss, regulatory and legal compliance, and no loss or major disruption from viruses or malware in over five years.
The primary goal of the Information Technology Department is to provide the maximum availability of resources to users and the public as a whole while reasonably guarantying the confidentiality and integrity of those resources. The information Technology Department takes its role of information hub for the City very seriously and continuously attempts to improve processes and the skills of its staff.
A secondary goal is to continue to educate both the public and the City staff as to what options and resources are available to them in order to create project congruence and to allow all City services to flourish while utilizing the minimal level of resources. This initiative has multiple purposes including reducing capital outlay, minimizing downtime, and freeing IT resources to allow for additional advanced projects to be accomplished.
